What did the world look like through the eyes of a 500-million-year-old trilobite? What could you see, hear, and smell in the swampy forest that was Chicago…300 million years ago? How would it feel to touch the face of our early human cousins?

Evolving Planet takes visitors on an awe-inspiring journey through 4 billion years of life on Earth, from single-celled organisms to towering dinosaurs and our extended human family. Unique fossils, animated videos, hands-on interactive displays, and recreated sea- and landscapes help tell the compelling story of evolution—the single process that connects everything that’s ever lived on Earth.

Interpretive Stations
Discover the Geological Hot Spots of the Americas by piecing together our Mega Maps that locate and identify the best places to find fossil evidence of prehistoric life on Earth. Later, play our Extinction Game and learn why and how certain species have survived Earth’s mass extinctions—while others have been lost forever.

Join us for an in-depth look at some important evolution basics and discover why it’s become so important to scientists. Tour Evolving Planet and other exhibitions to get a better understanding of the complex aspects of evolution and natural selection.
