Chocolate Recipes for Kids

Chocolate Chip Cookies
Try this simple and quick recipe for an American classic—the chocolate chip cookie.

And as with any recipe that requires the use of an oven or stove, children should always be supervised by parents—and besides, it’s fun to cook together!

Ingredients:
2-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
3/4 cups granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 large eggs
2 cups (12-ounce package) chocolate chips
1 cup chopped nuts

Instructions:
1) Preheat the oven to 375°. Combine the dry ingredients—the flour, baking soda, and salt—in a small bowl.

2) In a larger bowl, beat the butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until creamy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Then gradually beat in the flour mixture from the other bowl. Stir in the morsels and nuts.

3) Drop by rounded tablespoons onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown.

4) Cool on baking sheets for two minutes, then remove to wire racks and cool completely.

Makes about 5 dozen cookies.
