Studying Tertiary Life
The site of Fossil Lake in southwestern Wyoming offers a unique snapshot of an extinct tropical lake and the community of organisms that lived there 50 million years ago, at the beginning of the Tertiary Period during the Cenozoic Era.
Due to unique conditions, many Fossil Lake specimens are almost perfectly preserved. They offer us a rare glimpse of a warm, tropical world during the Cenozoic Era—the Age of Mammals.
