ORDER—RODENTIA
FAMILY—Muridae

COMMON NAME—Small Luzon forest mouse.

DISTRIBUTION—
Endemic to the Luzon Faunal Region: Catanduanes (USNM) and Luzon (Camarines Sur [USNM] and Isabela [FMNH] provinces).

HABITAT—Uncommon on Mt. Isarog, where they were captured in secondary lowland forest and primary montane forest from 475 m to 1550 m (Heaney et al., in press; Rickart et al, 1991). They were also taken in forest near sea level in Isabela Prov. (Danielsen et al., 1994) and on Catanduanes (Hollister, 1913). The species is virtually unknown elsewhere (Heaney et al., 1991; Mallari and Jensen, 1993).

STATUS—
Uncertain; probably widespread and stable, but deforestation has removed much of its habitat.

COMMENT—
Corbet and Hill (1992) stated that A. hollisteri should be used for this species, but Musser and Carleton (1993) continued usage of A. microdon.

NOTE ADDED IN 2005--Documented in montane and mossy forest from 1,050-2,150 m elevation in Balbalasang, Kalinga Province (Heaney et al. 2004)
