ORDER—RODENTIA
FAMILY—Sciuridae

COMMON NAME—Culion tree squirrel.

DISTRIBUTION—
Palawan Faunal Region only. Records are from Culion (FMNH), Linapacan (PNM), Iloc (PNM), and Tampel (PNM) islands only.

HABITAT—In primary and secondary lowland forest and coconut groves (Hoogstraal, 1951; Sanborn, 1952).

STATUS—
Locally abundant.

COMMENT—
Currently includes S. albicauda Matschie 1898, which is reported from Culion Island, but further study is needed (Heaney, 1979; Gonzales, unpubl. data).
