Speculation: How did Sue die?

Nobody knows. Although Sue’s bones are remarkably well preserved, they can’t tell us everything.

By examining the orientation of Sue’s bones in the ground and studying the surrounding rock deposits, scientists think Sue died near a fast-moving river. But anything more specific than that is speculation.

Unless scientists find final evidence of a fatal injury or disease, the cause of Sue’s death will remain a mystery.
