Human Resources

Shawn manages the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources department which serves over 525 employees and 600 volunteers. In addition to his responsibilities as the head of human resources, he serves as the Museum's Chief of Staff.  In this capacity he works closely with the executive team to organize communication and strategies and to manage various museum-wide projects.  Shawn began his career with The Field Museum in July 1997; was promoted to Director of Human Resources in May 2004. In January, 2006, Shawn was promoted to Vice President, Administration.  During his career at The Field Museum he has overseen various departments and functions, including:  Information Technology, Communications and Marketing, Protection Services, Mailroom and Printshop, Library and Education.

Prior to joining the Museum, Shawn was the manager of recruitment for a permanent placement recruitment firm that placed candidates with fortune 500 companies. Additionally, he spent several years working in higher education as a student admissions director.

Shawn has earned his Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University in interdisciplinary social sciences.

Shawn served as President-Elect (2008-2009), President (2009-2010) and Past-President (2010-2011) for the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).
