Introduction

Our information on seedlings can be cross-referenced with the recent tree guide by Jon Lovett and colleagues and the IUCN categorization of globally threatened plants in the Eastern Arc Mountains. See also Plant Conservation Assessment in the Eastern Arc Mountains and Coastal Forests of Tanzania and Kenya.

As many of the vascular plants we are studying are endemic to this region, and endemism generally correlates strongly with conservation status, we anticipate that our data on germination and seedling growth will provide critical information for propagation of the most threatened species. We also share information on common vascular species, including those that have local uses, which we also believe will be useful toward restoration programs in the region. See Tanzania Forest Conservation Group for additional information.
