More than a hundred years of biological interest and research has shown that the forests of the East Usambara Mountains have a unique diversity of flora and fauna, and an exceptionally high degree of endemism. They are listed as one of the world's biodiversity hotspots and centers of plant diversity and recognized as among the most valuable conservation areas in Africa. The forests also secure the water supply of about 400,000 people and provide livelihoods for local people living within them. In this gallery enjoy some representative photos of habitats, human landscape, and plants and animals.
