To better understand the Indigenous peoples of the Americas, dozens of archaeologists and anthropologists at The Field Museum work in countries across North, Central, and South America and the Caribbean. Follow a few of these scientists on their expeditions to unearth the story of these ancient cultures.

Expedition to Oaxaca, Mexico
Join Field Museum Curators and archaeologists Dr. Gary Feinman and Linda Nicholas as they make their annual trek to Oaxaca, Mexico. For many years, these scientists  have been studying what life was like for people living in hilltop centers during the height of the Zapotec civilization. Come along on the journey and explore the excavation site, view the archeologists’ video journals, and see images of spectacular artifacts they’ve uncovered each season.

Expedition to Cerro Baúl
Dig into the past of one of the earliest ancient American empires with Field Museum Curators and archaeologists Dr. Patrick Ryan Williams and Dr. Donna Nash. For the last seven years, they have led excavations at Cerro Baúl, a remote mountaintop citadel of the Wari Empire in Peru. See what these scientists uncovered by exploring the dig site and viewing artifacts and video reports of their excavations.
