Felipe Solís, Ph.D. Director
Museo Nacional de Antropología
Beyond his work and experience as a field archaeologist, Felipe Solís has dedicated a big part of his professional life to the Museo Nacional de Antropología (National Museum of Anthropology). He has served as a curator of Aztec collections for 35 years and as the museum's director for the last seven years.
Solís is also a professor of Mesoamerican Studies at the Facultad de Folosoifía y Letras, Universidad Nacional Autómoma de México (School of Philosophy and Humanities, UNAM); former president of the Colegio de Arqueólogos de México (Professional Association of Archaeologists of Mexico); a fellow of the Sociedad Mexicana de Geografía y Estadística (Mexican Society of Geography and Statistics) and a member of the Instituto Mexicano de Cultura (Mexican Institute of Culture).
As a specialist in the art and culture of the Aztecs, Professor Solis is an author of more than 120 specialized and popular science articles and more than 45 books and catalogues, written individually or in collaboration. The most prominent titles are: Tesoros Artisticos del Museo Nacional de Antropología (Artistic Treasures of the National Museum of Archaeology); Gloria y Fama Mexica (Mexica Glory and Fame); EI Oro Precolombino de Mexico (Precolumbian Gold of Mexico), EI Calendario Azteca y Otros Monumentos Solares, (The Aztec Calendar and Other Solar Monuments); and his most recent publication, La Gran Pirámide de Colula (The Great Pyramid of Cholula) 2006.
