Farmers

Farmers formed the foundation of Aztec society. They transformed wetlands and dry hillsides into lush cultivated fields in order to feed a nation of ten million people. Living on the outskirts of Tenochtitlan far from the grand temples, they depended upon the forces of nature for their livelihood.
