What Your Museum Does

For more than 100 years, The Field Museum has been committed to documenting biodiversity and designing ways to protect it on a global scale. But the Museum takes its own conservation message to heart right here at home.

Locally, we implement what we’ve learned about biodiversity and the consequences of human actions to reduce the Museum’s environmental footprint. Whether we’re buying recycled paper or using renewable energy, it’s equally important to evaluate the Museum’s impact on Chicago’s ecosystem.

Select a category below to see just a sampling of how we’ve renovated our facilities using environmentally sensitive technologies that conserve natural resources.

Lighting
Discover how changing the way we light the Museum is saving energy and money—you’ll find ideas that will work in your own home, too!
Heating and Cooling
Check out the cutting-edge heating and cooling systems we’ve recently installed at the Museum to see how these innovative technologies protect our environment.
Power Usage
Learn more about how we curb our energy use and generate our own power through our new solar panels, wind turbine, and other eco-friendly equipment.
Pollution Control
Take a look at the award-winning transportation and recycling programs we’ve instituted to cut down on air and ground pollution.
