Online Teaching Resources

Experience the thrill of discovery with treasures from The Field Museum, anywhere that you have access to the Internet. Your classroom can study Museum artifacts with the eyes of a scientist, and examine aspects of our Year of Biodiversity and Conservation exhibitions and programs in more detail.

Through our online resources, you and your students can even join Museum professionals at work throughout the world as they make important scientific discoveries that document and protect biodiversity. Use these materials and activities to engage your students in a unique learning experience and bring The Field Museum directly into your classroom.
Explore the World Online with expeditions@fielmuseum™
With this free online program you can join Museum scientists in the field with expeditions@fieldmuseum™ as they conduct groundbreaking research and make exciting discoveries around the globe. Participate in the expeditions through e-mail dispatches, video reports, photo galleries, and interactive maps.

Sign up online or send an e-mail to expeditions@fieldmuseum.org. and be sure to visitor our expeditions website.
Virtual Field Trips
Take a “virtual field trip” to Kenya to study wildlife, or join scientists to dig for dinosaurs. These multi-media programs let you work alongside scientists to gather data and develop scientific theories.
Project E.R (Environmental Rescue)
We invite you and your students to join us on a rescue expedition to ecosystems where Field Museum scientists are working to understand and conserve biodiversity. Students will investigate how to balance the needs of people with those of the broader ecosystems of which they are only a part.

For our complete online curriculum, check out the Project E.R. website.
This Old Habitat
"This Old Habitat" takes an engaging look at just what a habitat is and how natural habitats—while ever-changing—can be protected and restored when necessary. Through our online program, your students can visit several native habitats around Chicagoland and see real-life examples of restoration work being done by students.

To learn more, take a look at our This Old Habitat website.
Science in Action for Conservation
“Science in Action for Conservation” looks at two Field Museum sites—one in South America and one right in their own backyard—that demonstrate how scientists and communities work together to conserve biodiversity. With this introduction, students will see how they can get involved and take conservation action in their own backyards.

To learn more, visit the Science in Action for Conservation website.
Chocolate Curriculum
Use the enticing subject of chocolate to teach your class about the intriguing relationship between nature and culture. Cocoa Connections: From Beans to Bars—A Resource Kit for Educators contains 12 lessons that will increase your students’ understanding of the connections between humans and their environment.

For more information, check out the Chocolate website.
Underground Adventure Curriculum
You and your students can investigate the world beneath your feet as you conduct experiments at a field site just like our Field Museum scientists. The Underground Adventure Curriculum combines outdoor education with technology to create a unique learning experience that helps students develop a sense of responsibility for the world in which they live.
