I am the new Social Media Strategist at the Field Museum. I couldn't be more thrilled to be working for the very Museum that inspired me to pursue a career in museum work in the first place. (Don't believe me? Look at the picture at the bottom of my bio page. My mother insisted that I put that up.)
Thinking about ways that cultural institutions can engage audiences online and through digital media has been a long-running interest of mine, both as a marketing professional and an academic. I've been Tweeting about that very thing, so if you're interested in hearing more about the broader issues of digital media in museums (with occasional stray Tweets about dogs, video games, and desserts) you can follow me @JaneHannaSays.
I am very privileged that my job allows me to learn about all of the amazing goings-on here, so that I can share them with you on Facebook, Twitter, and a zillion other places where people meet and communicate online. It's also a constant pleasure to be able to talk to fans of The Museum on those sites, and hear their stories about learning new things and having memorable experiences at the Field.
I'll use this blog to talk more extensively about some of the things I tweet about, share personal anecdotes about my experiences at The Museum, and maybe share a nerdy joke or two.
If you have any comments, questions, suggestions, or smart remarks, please send them my way! jhanna (at) fieldmuseum (dot) org. I look forward to hearing from you!
