BugCamp 1996
| The BugCamp idea began in 1996 when Zeus Preckwinkle, a science teacher at Ancona School in Chicago, invited Dr. Bill Ballard to give a lecture to his students. Some students followed their interests and began volunteering at the museum. That summer, Ballard arranged for three students (pictured at right), Preckwinkle, and Janet Musich, another teacher from the Ancona School, to begin databasing the museum's collection of flies. The efforts of these original students earned them the name "Diptera Disciples", since "Diptera" is the scientific name for flies. Continue to 1997... |
