Earwigs were once thought to inhabit wigs, where they would enter people's ears. Contrary to this outdated belief, earwigs do not pose such an annoyance.
Shown to the left is an earwig model guarding its newly hatched young. These insects are very common in gardens. In the daytime, they usually hide under rocks.
