Documentary Videos:

Communities are in motion, even at points of calm. Below are four video segments, each about five minutes long. They flow together comprising a story of the actistill from flash movieon residents have taken and the triumphs they have achieved in Calumet while securing their communities for future generations. The segments pay particular attention to subtle forms of activism that are often overlooked. Video clips are referenced on a map of the region, along with similar assets.

Making things Grow
Residents have beautified much of the region through gardening. This five-minute mini-documentary takes you into the plots, fields and community gardens around the region. Click to find out why people are gardening and how their efforts have contributed to their communities.

Securing the Future
The future of the Calumet region largely depends on local interest, from both activists and everyday citizens. There are a number of activists in the region who have been very successful at stopping pollution and communicating their visions of the region to planners.

Residents are constantly active in many different ways, from restoring natural habitats rich in biodiversity to creating safe and clean environments, to gardening, creating art, building local businesses and participating in local festivals. Such forms of activism are tangible forms of community life that are too often ignored.
