Recreation

Calumet's many parks, waterways, wetlands and forests are huge assets, drawing an impressive array of 'natural' recreation to an urban area. Specialists flock to the region to experience rare plant and animal species, while families and friends gather in open space to relax, socialize and enjoy the peaceful landscape and striking surroundings. Gardening

On the Water Front
Whether windsurfing, fishing, boating or swimming, water is the focal point for much recreation in the region. Many non-place based communities revolve around water.

The Great Outdoors
Aside from gardening and water activities, the Lake Calumet region offers many other popular venues where people are actively engaged in the environment, where people gather and enjoy the great outdoors.

Sports, whether planned tournaments or pickup games in a park, create enthusiasm and attachment to the public spaces in which they are played. Friendly competition also brings people together who may not normally interact.
