Creativity
Human beings' diverse responses to the concerns of life arise as environment, history, and creativity shape the varieties of human culture.
How does human creativity shape our different responses to common concerns?
Humans possess the unique ability to communicate imaginatively through symbols in a variety of media. Our creative responses to the world's changing environments and evolving perspectives on history help us to adapt, and to solve problems essential to our individual and collective welfare.
Tens of thousands of years ago, humans evolved the ability to imagine, and to communicate through symbols. This gave us the capacity for creativity the ability to invent new solutions to problems. Human creativity helps us shape our surroundings, rather than only being shaped by them. While we bring creativity to bear on just about everything, we see it most vividly in our art forms. These "toe shoes" are used for ballet, a kind of dance developed in sixteenth-century Europe. Tap dancing is a creative combination of many types of dance, including Irish step dancing, African and African-American dance, and gypsy flamenco dancing.
