The Calumet Environmental Education Program began with a two-day "Wonders of Calumet" teacher workshop with over 30 educators attending to learn about the natural resources and rich biodiversity of the Calumet region. Educators across grade levels were introduced to the Calumet region, building their knowledge about local environmental issues to share with their students during the school year. Educators also participated in one of three program trainings, Mighty Acorns (grades 4-6), Earth Force (grades 6-8), or UrbanWatch (grades 9 to 12), to learn how to incorporate this knowledge into their curriculum with their students.

During the year, CEEP teachers are also supported through Inquiry Groups, which are organized meetings of all participating teachers during the school year to provide opportunities to network with other teachers and "receive input from experts to sharpen their skills and deepen their subject knowledge." (The Glenn Report) These meetings are also a time for teachers to exchange ideas about activities, teaching methods, learn technology and build camaraderie between grade levels.

Students and educators participating in CEEP will also be invited to attend the first annual Calumet Stewardship Day with hundreds of other students in the Calumet region, learning about local environmental issues from experts through hands-on educational stations and stewardship work at Wolf Lake and Eggers Woods.

CEEP culminates with a Summer Institute for participating educators, providing time to learn additional content and improve skills for teaching scientific literacy. During the weeklong Summer Institute, teachers will expand their understanding of local biodiversity and will learn how what they teach affects students' ability to acquire specific knowledge and skills in later grades.
