Dramatic breakthroughs in paleontology, including newly discovered fossils and advanced computer technology, reveal the evolutionary link between ancient dinosaurs and modern-day birds. The centerpiece of this 7,000-square-foot exhibition is an extraordinary diorama of a 130-million-year-old Mesozoic forest in China, where you will encounter over 35 species of dinosaurs, mammals, fish, reptiles and insects in their prehistoric natural habitat.

View a cast of a fossil from Sinornithosaurus millennii that exhibits both downy fluff and primitive feathers. See a fossil of the foot of a Coelophysis, which resembles that of a modern-day turkey, and watch an animatronic T. rex walk in place. Including research from The Field Museum’s own scientific staff, this exhibition presents interactive high-tech computer animation that sheds new light on how dinosaurs looked, how they moved in herds, and how they might have become extinct. Impressive fossil specimens and casts—many on display for the first time—foster a new appreciation for these ancient creatures at the hottest place to see dinosaurs—The Field Museum.
