Exhibition Highlights

Enjoy these seven sections of the Eternal Egypt exhibition.

top imageThe Late New Kingdom
19th and 20th Dynasties, ca.1295 - 1069 B.C.
See how continued emphasis on the kingship and an increasingly complex society are mirrored in huge monuments and art that reflect a more elaborate style of dress and jewelry.
    Don’t miss:
Book of the Dead, Papyrus of Ani
These colorful and delicate papyrus scrolls come from the most famous of all Egyptian illustrated texts—the Book of the Dead of a scribe named Ani.

The Third Intermediate Period and The Late Period
21st – 30th Dynasties, ca. 1069 - 343 B.C.
Examine how foreign and Egyptian rulers reached back to earlier styles in an effort to shore up their power and re-create Egypt’s glory days. These periods combined ancient traditions with continued artistic creativity to create a distinctive, highly idealized new style.
    Don’t miss:
    Column Capital With Hathor Emblem
This stone fragment, nearly 7 feet in height, once crowned a colossal column in the temple of the cat goddess Bastet.

top imageThe Ptolemaic/Greco-Roman Period
31st Dynasty, ca. 332 B.C. - A.D. 642
As 3,000 years of pharaonic dynasties come to a close, trace the blending of Egyptian traditions with Greek, Roman, and eventually early Christian styles.
    Don’t miss:
    Panel Portrait of a Woman
This wooden panel portrait, which served as a mummy mask, reveals how Egypt preserved traditional practices while adopting the painting techniques and naturalistic style of the Greco-Roman world.
