Jewelry Design
Ancient Egyptians valued jewelry for its precious materials and the decorative color it added to their predominantly white costumes. However, they also counted on its powers as an amulet.
Jewelry typically contained a limited number of specific protective symbols and motifs. As a result, innovation in jewelry design was largely restricted to new ways of combining standard motifs.
By the beginning of the Early New Kingdom, however, a few fresh motifs, such as ducks, and even a new type of jewelryearringshad been successfully introduced. Some of these innovations reflect foreign influence. Others suggest that new ideas, or original adaptations of old ideas, were born out of the turbulence of the Second Intermediate Period.
