Eternal Egypt - Planning Your Visit

Eternal Egypt Audio Tours

Some of the hieroglyphic “falcons” and “scarab beetles,” scattered throughout Eternal Egypt are not ancient artifacts but visual cues for guests who rent the Acoustiguide audio tours that accompany the exhibition.

Visitors can take the adult or family audio tours—designed by Acoustiguide especially for The Field Museum—in any order and at their own pace. The audio tours are sold on-site at the Museum.

Adult Tour
When adults see a falcon, they know it’s time to listen for candid and insightful comments from some of the world's top Egyptologists, including Robert Ritner of the Oriental Institute at the University of Chicago, and exhibition curator, Edna R. Russmann of the Brooklyn Museum of Art.

The 30-minute adult tour explores 17 highlights of the exhibition, including the magnificent carved likenesses of Egypt’s legendary rulers Thutmosis III, Rameses II, and Amenhotep III; golden ornaments worn by Egypt’s elite; and illuminated stories rendered on ancient papyrus.

Family Tour
When kids see a scarab beetle, they tune in to their imaginative tour guide “Jack.” Through his youthful eyes and ears, the countless gods, goddesses and rulers of ancient Egypt come to life.

The 30-minute family tour brings 15 objects in the exhibition to life for younger museum-goers, including the extraordinarily life-like Soleb lion; the statue of Senenmut holding Princess Neferure; and a turtle-headed guardian demon.

Audio Tour Price
Acoustiguide audio tours of Eternal Egypt are $5 for adults and $4 for members and children 11 years old and younger.
