Karen Carr, John Gurche, and Phlesch Bubble Productions
Karen Carr, John Gurche, and Phlesch Bubble Productions are award-winning artists working today in the tradition of Charles Knight. Each of these artists used the original fossil material now on display in Evolving Planet as the basis for their evocative, scientifically accurate illustrations.
Karen Carr
Karen Carr is an illustrator who lives and works in New Mexico. Her work has been featured in museum exhibitions, books, and periodicals such as Scientific American. For Evolving Planet, Carr created over 150 original black-and-white and color illustrations depicting flora and fauna for nearly every geologic time period.
John Gurche
John Gurche painted Sue the T. rex for The Field Museum in 1999. His original painting, based on actual fossils found with Sue, can be found on display in Evolving Planet. It is also featured in an engaging hands-on interactive in the dinosaur hall…try it out to learn more about Sue’s Mesozoic world.
Phlesch Bubble Productions
Phlesch Bubble Productions is the animator team of Lawrence Fields and Jillian Rose. Based in Australia, Phlesch Bubble worked closely with Field Museum staff and scientists to create an immersive animation of the Cambrian seas. Visitors to Evolving Planet will experience this underwater scene as if it’s an aquarium full of long-extinct creatures from over 500 million years ago.
