Africa

Walking into the Africa exhibit, visitors enter a world of diversity breathtakingly deep and broad. They are immersed in images of great civilizations, species-rich ecosystems, intricate political organization and monumental conflict, elaborate art and craft. They experience the regionwide evolution of nature and culture through videos, interactive elements, and engaging displays of artifacts, animals, and plants. They trace the thread of tradition through the midst of rapid change and leave behind preconceived notions about Africa.

On special occasions, camels may wear jewel-toned gear, like this decorated Tuareg saddle bag, Niger. A112459 John Weinstein
