Kings and Warriors The Bronze Age (circa 1900221 B.C.) With the development of metalworking, China entered the Bronze Age. Populations grew dense in certain areas. These settlements were regional centers for trade, craft production, politics, and religion. The leaders of Chinas first royal dynastiesstates ruled by hereditygoverned from these centers of activity. As these leaders grew more powerful, states became competitive with one another. Displaying jade was an unmistakable way to demonstrate power and wealth to ones subjects and to leaders of neighboring states.
