Spirals of Life: Snails of the Indian Ocean
Rüdiger Bieler
Indian Ocean
Snails are a very large group of animals that live in habitats ranging from dry land to the ocean deeps. Rüdiger Bieler is working to make sense of the enormous diversity of snails in the Indian Ocean and elsewhere in the world. Rüdiger uses a combination of field and laboratory techniques ranging from collecting by SCUBA diving to DNA sequencing. Several of the marine species Rüdiger studies are important members of coral reef communities.
Rüdiger Bieler was born in Hamburg, Germany, and studied at the University of Hamburg.
