Understanding How Fish Swim
Mark Westneat
Coral Sea

How do fish swim? The answer is in many different - and often surprising - ways. Mark Westneat analyzes the way fishes move through biomechanics - the study of the engineering design of organisms. Using computer models and high speed videotapes of swimming fish, Mark is able to understand how fishes' construction helps them swim and capture prey.

Mark Westneat was born in Akron, Ohio, and studied at the College of Wooster and Duke University.
