Bold, large-scale color photographs capture the fragility and beauty of rainforests and their inhabitants.
For over twenty years, noted photographer Frans Lanting has traveled the world exploring the remarkably diverse flora and fauna of the tropics. His stunning images reveal the vibrant and dynamic wildlife that inhabits what he calls the Earth’s “forgotten Edens.”
Dense rainforests reluctantly reveal their inhabitants, pushing Lanting to go to great lengths to photograph his subjects. Often exposed to predators and tropical diseases like malaria, he is still a meticulous artist, carefully selecting the perfect time and place for each shot. Hiding in a canvas blind perched high in the forest canopies, standing partially submerged in a swamp, or crouching in waterholes, he patiently waitsoften for days on endfor the perfect moment. The results are striking images of colorful birds, extraordinary insects, and luscious vegetation from around the world, including Brazil, Borneo, and Madagascar.
Lanting’s award-winning photographs have appeared in major magazines around the world, including National Geographic, Audubon and Life. |
