Machu Picchu:
Unveiling the Mystery of the Incas

October 15, 2004—February 13, 2005

High atop the Andes Mountains in Peru, shrouded in clouds and steeped in mystery, is the "lost city" of Machu Picchu – a lasting tribute to the Inca Empire and one of the most spectacular archaeological sites in the world. Machu Picchu: Unveiling the Mystery of the Incas features the largest collection of Inca artifacts ever assembled in this country - including gold, silver, ceramics and textiles. This interactive exhibition utilizes audio/video technology to invite visitors to travel back to the 15th century to learn about a civilization that was the most highly-developed of its time. You will view a panorama of the high altitude Peruvian cloud forest, walk along a replica of an ancient Inca road, take a self-guided interactive tour of the Machu Picchu palace complex and inspect a replica of an Inca burial chamber. This ancient city was “lost” for more than 300 years and “rediscovered” in 1911 by American explorer Hiram Bingham. Today it offers a rare opportunity to gain real understanding of the cultural legacy of the Pre-Columbian era. It’s also an entertaining, interactive experience you’ll not soon forget.
