Gonzalo Giribet Ph.D.

Dr. Gonzalo Giribet is interested in the origins and maintenance of animal diversity, especially of invertebrate animals, and uses their morphology and DNA to explain their evolutionary relationships, biogeographic patterns, and population genetics. He received his licenciatura (Spain’s Bachelor of Science Degree) in 1993 and his Ph.D. in 1997, both from the Universitat de Barcelona. He conducted postdoctoral research at the American Museum of Natural History in New York before moving on to Harvard in 2000, becoming a professor there in 2007.
Dr. Giribet is President Elect of the International Society for Invertebrate Morphology and belongs to the advisory boards of 11 scientific journals. He has written more than 120 research papers, chapters, and books. His primary role in BivAToL is to coordinate the molecular work and to contribute to the data analysis of the combined datasets.
