A crew member is using the project's flotation machine. Water pumped through the barrel removes dirt from a sample of excavated soil placed inside. Once water is added to the sample, plant remains and other light-weight materials float on the surface (light fraction), while gravel and microartifacts (heavy fraction) are collected in screens for future sorting and analysis.
