Were the terraces constructed primarily for residential occupation or for cultivation?

The team has discovered domestic architecture on all of the excavated terraces. The structures generally consisted of a u-shaped complex of rooms around a patio. Most of the rooms had well-constructed stone foundations, plastered floors, and the remnants of adobe brick walls. Other domestic features on the terraces include small hearths, ash pits, large circular ovens, and a small firing area for making ceramic vessels. Also consistent with the domestic use of the terrace is the presence of numerous burials. Like other prehispanic Mesoamerican peoples, these people kept their deceased ancestors close to home. In addition, most of the residential compounds on the excavated terraces were rebuilt many times, an indication that the residential occupation was long-term, possibly lasting for centuries.
