Páramo
The páramo is the neotropical equivalent of the alpine zone in the Rocky Mountains. In Costa Rica it occurs at over 3,000 meters above sea level. It is an area of shrubs, herbaceous plants, and grasses above the elevation where oaks or other trees grow.
