Northern Giant Cloud Rat
Phloeomys pallidus

The second group of native rats—cloud rats and their close relatives (which can be the size of house cats)—dwell in the forest treetops and eat tender young leaves.

DNA studies show that both rat groups evolved from only two ancestral populations that arrived on the Philippines about 10 million years ago and have diversified greatly since then.
