Janet Voight, Ph.D. This is Janet's fifth cruise on the R/V Atlantis and her anticipated fourth dive in the ALVIN, including one to 2663 meters depth, but this is her first cruise to and dive at hydrothermal vents on the East Pacific Rise. The time she has spent at hydrothermal vents has been rewarded with many opportunities to observe octopuses and demonstrate that even without apparent specialization to this rigorous habitat, they eat vent residents. It also has allowed her to add specimens from one of the Earth's most spectacular habitats to the Museum's collections.
