A Summary of the Expedition
Also, we found bones in the lower part of the Cloverly Formation, which is not normally known to produce much, as well as some some good micro-sites in the Meteetse Formation in the Elk Basin.
In terms of dinosaur bones, the area we prospected during the last week of the expedition seems to hold much potential. In addition to the sauropod bone that Connie discovered in the lower Cloverly, she located a beautiful sauropod shinbone in the upper Jurassic Morrison Formation. The last two days of the trip focused on a section of Cloverly north of Greybull that was eroding at a low angle to the bedding plane, thus exposing larger areas of the individual beds. Here, bits of bone were fairly abundant, and we got several pieces including a nice sauropod tail vertebra discovered by Gerald. Although next summer seems almost too distant to be planning for, this is the region we will probably focus on next year.
