Donna Nash, Ph.D.
Adjunct Curator, South American Archaeology, The Field Museum
Dr. Donna Nash is the Principle Excavation Director of the Cerro Baúl Archaeology Project and has worked in the Moquegua Valley for over 10 years. She conducted her dissertation research on the Wari settlement of Cerro Mejía, a secondary political center next to Cerro Baúl, and received her doctorate from the University of Florida in 2002. Her interests include the political dynamics of imperial expansion, the formation of state institutions, and daily household practices.
Mario Ruales Moreno, M.A.
Investigator, Museo Contisuyo
Mario Ruales is a Peruvian archaeologist with more than 20 years of experience in the field of Andean archaeology. He has been Co-director of the Cerro Baúl project with Dr. Ryan Williams since 2001.
He has also directed excavations at Cerro del Oro (Mountain of Gold), a Wari site in the Cañete Valley of Peru, first excavated by Alfred Kroeber on a Field Museum expedition in 1926. Collections from Cerro del Oro by Kroeber are part of The Field Museums South American holdings today.
Mario has also worked extensively in the region of Perus Nasca linebuilders and has conducted research at Easter Island. In addition to co-directing the field research, he is the projects Principal Ceramic Analyst.
