ECCo welcomed representatives of 15 community-based organizations—all members of the Energy Action Network (EAN)—to The Museum in March 2010 for a workshop on innovation and collaboration. ECCo co-directs the EAN, the City’s first community outreach effort of the Chicago Climate Action Plan. The workshop included a special activity in the Ancient Americas exhibit where participants examined how people used culture to adapt to environmental change. The discussion in the Marae Gallery then focused on how to use cultural adaptations to think of new ways to adjust to a changing climate. Anthropology curator John Terrell opened the discussion with a presentation of the Marae as a community forum for conflict resolution and collaboration. The workshop concluded with an inspiring reflective session in the Maori House itself.
