After you’ve toured the Grainger Hall of Gems, be sure to visit other exhibitions at The Field Museum that explore earth sciences, gems, and jewelry, including:
The Nature of Diamonds Discover the gem that has stimulated scientists, inspired writers and influenced artisans for thousands of years in the exhibition The Nature of Diamonds, appearing at The Field Museum from October 23, 2009 through March 28, 2010. Examine the unique properties of diamonds and explore the gem in its natural state as you journey along from mine to dealer. Through ancient manuscripts, compelling multimedia, and evocative exhibitry, you’ll explore the many facets of diamonds and be dazzled by these breathtaking pieces. Highlights will include jewelry by Fulco di Vedura, Cartier, Boucheron, and works from Tiffany & Co.
Malott Hall of Jades Discover the stone that is so much more in The Field Museum’s Malott Hall of Jades. This stunning permanent display of more than 450 objects from the Museum’s collection traces the mineral properties of jade, the many methods of carving jade, and jade’s role in human cultures over time and around the world. From prehistoric burials through modern day artisans, you won’t want to miss this tour of China, the world’s most enduring empire, and the part jade has played in its 8,000-year-old history.
