Kevin Coval (Chicago)
This poet, emcee, essayist, activist and educator has touched minds around the globe, with stops in the US, South Africa, Jamaica, India, and Europe. He uses hip-hop to wrestle, expose, and explore the impact of whiteness on himself and people of color. He has been featured on Russell Simmons' Def Poetry Jam (HBO) and published Pieces of Shalom, his collection of original poems. Coval has shared a stage with Cornel West and Amiri Baraka, opened for Ani Difranco, closed for Ntozake Shange, got down with jazz legends Kahil El'Zabar and Ernest Dawkins, blessed mics with emcees Bahamadia and Medusa. He also impacts aspiring young writers by teaching and creating workshops for Young Chicago Authors, the Guild Complex, and The University of Hip-Hop.
