Three field camps were established along the elevational gradient in 1999 (map adapted from MacQuarrie, 1992).





Abra Acjanaco (AA)--elfin forest-pajonal ecotone, near the ranger station, ca. 10 days

Suecia (Su)--montane cloud forest, along the Río Cosñipata, 3 weeks

Aguas Calientes (AC)--lowland tropical forest, along the Río Alto Madre de Díos, 3 weeks
