J. W. Croft, PhD
Jim Croft joined The Field Museum (Chicago, Illinois) in May 1984, and currently serves as Executive Vice President. His primary areas of responsibility include Institutional Advancement, Finance (CFO), and Facilities Planning and Operations.
He provides oversight to the annual fundraising program, corporate and foundation giving, and the Museum's Capital Campaign. He is also responsible for accounting, budgeting, grants administration, investments, debt compliance, in addition to facilities management, which includes institutional construction projects.
Prior to joining the Museum, he held several positions in social service administration as a community center executive director (1967-1974); financial officer / controller (1974-1979); and the chief business officer (1979-1984).
He received a PhD from the University of Nebraska where his doctoral work focused on higher education and nonprofit finance. He also completed undergraduate studies at the University of Nebraska and Roosevelt University, and holds a graduate degree from National-Louis University (National College of Education).
Dr. Croft serves on the Boards of First Nonprofit Insurance Company, The Salvation Army, The Natural Science Collections Alliance, Great Lakes Advisors, Inc, and The Chicago Sunday Evening Club. He has also taught finance, accounting and management courses at several Chicago area universities.
