Edward W. Horner, Jr.
Edward Horner joined The Field Museum in February 2007 as Senior Vice President, Strategic Initiatives. This newly created department will have the responsibility of updating the institution's long range plan, which was originally formulated and approved in 1999. The Department will be developing a long range strategy that will embed fundraising priorities as the core of an ongoing effort to grow The Field Museum's scientific and educational capabilities. The Office of Strategic Initiatives is also responsible for expanding a program for principal gifts, which will become one of the key components of the overall development efforts for The Field Museum.
Prior to his appointment at The Field Museum, Mr. Horner served for more than ten years as Executive Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Executive Vice President for Development and Public Affairs at The Art Institute of Chicago, most recently having responsibility for managing the largest capital fundraising campaigns for the Art Institute's museum ($350 million) and School ($100 million).
Prior to his tenure at The Art Institute of Chicago, he served in similar executive positions as Associate Dean for External Affairs at the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago; Vice President for University Advancement at DePaul University; Executive Vice President of the Children's Memorial Medical Center and President of The Children's Memorial Foundation; and Director or Development and Public Affairs at Northwestern Memorial Medical Center.
Mr. Horner holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from National Louis University (formerly National College of Education) and a Masters in Management from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management of Northwestern University.
He is a director of the Presbyterian Homes and the Geneva Foundation. He is also a founding member of the Board of Trustees and Board of Governors and currently serves as a member of the Council of Retired Directors of the Osmond Foundation, dba The Children's Miracle Network, an international charity that raises funds to support children's hospitals and related agencies. Mr. Horner is also a member of the Charitable Trust Advisory Council for the Office of the Attorney General of Illinois.
