Current & Upcoming Temporary Exhibitions:

Nature Unleashed: Inside Natural Disasters
May 23, 2008—January 4, 2009
Explore the earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, volcanoes, tornadoes, and other natural disasters from the ancient past and not-too-distant future that both fascinate and frighten us.

The Aztec World
October 31, 2008—April 19, 2009
Explore the grandeur and complexity of one of the world's great civilizations.  In the span of less than 200 years, the Aztecs went from a nomadic group to one of the most powerful societies ever, leaving behind a legacy that lives on today.  Now, find out how this civilization that began in the middle of a lake went on to rapidly become one of the most influential empires of all time.  Journey into the everyday lives of the farmers, merchants, weavers and traders whose work laid the foundation for this great civilization.  Examine the deities, temples and sacrificial alters of Aztec religion.  Explore the training, weapons and celebrations of Aztec warriors.  Discover the privilege, possessions and treasures of Aztec rulers.  Through hundreds of spectacular artifacts and works of art, assembled together for the first time in Chicago, trace the remarkable rise and fall of The Aztec World exclusively at The Field Museum.

Behind the Scenes Tours:
Journey to the hidden collections of The Field Museum. Let us create a customized tour of our artifacts in spaces normally off-limits to the public! Be escorted by a Field Museum specialist who will provide guests with interesting facts about the Field Museum’s collections. With only 1% of the Museum’s artifacts on display, this can be an eye-opening experience for your guests!

Docents:
Docents are Museum staff who take extensive training to become knowledgeable about one or more of our permanent or temporary exhibitions to answer questions and provide interesting facts to your guests throughout an exhibition. We recommend docents as a way of providing that special experience for your guests.
