Real Pirates: The Untold Story of The Whydah from Slave Ship to Pirate Ship
February 27, 2009 – October 25, 2009
Experience the compelling story of a real pirate ship, the Whydah, which started out as a slave ship, and the stories of the diverse people whose lives converged on the vessel. In 1717, the slave ship Whydah—the most advanced vessel of her day—was captured by Sam Bellamy and his pirate crew. Just two months later, she sank off the coast of Cape Cod packed with plunder. She lay undiscovered until 1984, and is the first authenticated pirate ship ever found in U.S. waters.
