Women's Board Gala will be a Celebration of Style
What could be more stylish than the annual gala of The Womens Board of The Field Museum? Perhaps only a gala inspired by the elegance of a state dinner in the Kennedy White House.
The black-tie event, to be held at The Field Museum on Friday, November 12, 2004, will serve as a grand opening for the exhibition Jacqueline Kennedy: The White House Years Selections from the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum.
Jacqueline Kennedy was such an icon of style, I know people will make an effort to be especially chic this year, says Maureen Smith, who chairs the event along with fellow Womens Board member Juli Grainger. Juli and David Grainger direct The Grainger Foundation, lead sponsor of the exhibition. The lead sponsor of the gala is Marshall Fields.
Were expecting some special guests at the gala, including our honorary co-chairs, Caroline Kennedy and her husband, Edwin Schlossberg, Smith says. Mayor and Mrs. Richard M. Daley and Governor and Mrs. Rod R. Blagojevich will also serve as honorary chairs. Senator and Mrs. Edward Kennedy are expected to attend, along with many of Chicagos prominent civic leaders and celebrities.
Guests will enjoy a spectacular evening at The Field Museum, including cocktails, dining and dancing, and an exclusive preview of the exhibition. Theyll be able to show off their formal gowns against a background of those worn by Jacqueline Kennedy when she entertained heads of state at the White House and visited magnificent palaces abroad.
The Womens Board of The Field Museum, founded in 1966, has held an annual formal dinner since 1968. The event last year raised more than $900,000 for the Museum. In addition to the gala, The Womens Board funds scientific projects through its Field Dreams program, and hosts a Childrens Holiday Celebration, a spring Outreach Luncheon, and other activities to raise awareness of the Museum and its programs.
