KEYNOTE LECTURE

An Afternoon with Robert Dallek

Acclaimed historian and author Robert Dallek will examine critical issues rich in relevance to our current domestic and international crises. Dallek’s landmark biography of President Kennedy, An Unfinished Life: John F. Kennedy 1917-1963, tells the dramatic story of the life and times of Kennedy, creating a vivid portrait of a bold, brave human Kennedy, once again a hero. Reserved seats: $28, members $26

Bowles, a guest curator of the exhibition, will explore how the First Lady carefully shaped her image to convey her primary interests and concerns. Learn how her style extended beyond her wardrobe as she used her passion for the arts and history to elevate American culture.

Kennedys in Chicago

Discover the continuing legacy of the Kennedy family in Chicago and learn more about the fascinating friendship that developed between the Daley and Kennedy families. Chicago played host to two events crucial to Kennedy's election: the 1960 Kennedy/Nixon debate at CBS and the torchlight parade orchestrated by former Mayor Richard J. Daley. This dynamic panel discussion will focus on these historic events, emphasizing John F. Kennedy's position as the first politician to recognize the power of television.

Inside the White House

Laced with humor, Hugh Sidey's presentation will offer rare insight in the White House from an insider's perspective. Having personally known every president since Dwight Eisenhower, Sidey will examine the Kennedy Administration--from the Vienna Summit to that fateful day in Dallas—and the contemporary history of America's most famous residence.

A staged reading by LIVE BAIT THEATER

Follow this humorous trek through Jacqueline Kennedy’s social life. Etiquette expert Letitia Baldrige's witty and colorful memoir of her years as Jackie’s Social Secretary is brought to life in a staged reading by Chicago’s acclaimed Live Bait Theater. You’ll tag along with Tish and the First Lady as they redecorate the Executive Mansion, throw some swell soirees, and lose their luggage on three continents. The play is a sweet natured reflection on an era when good manners and impeccable taste guided our country through tumultuous domestic change. Live Bait’s performance features an ensemble of costumed actors playing notable Camelot figures.

A suspenseful fact-based drama about the youthful John Fitzgerald Kennedy and his wartime experiences. After Japanese soldiers destroy their boat, young Lt. Kennedy and his men from PT 109 find themselves stranded on an isolated, uninhabitable South Pacific island. Between the island and rescue lie perilous waters filled with enemy gunboats. And the soldiers can only hope that help can make it through.
Released in 1963. Not rated. Running time: 2 hrs. and 20 minutes
