Unleash the Scent of Ancient Egypt: Marilyn Miglin's Seven Sacred Oils
Available only at The Field Museum!
CHICAGOAncient Egyptians have long been known for their legacy of beauty. From the lush landscape along the banks of the Nile River to the architectural wonder of the pyramids, splendor reigned in nearly all aspects of ancient Egyptian life and culture. Amidst all of these riches, one luxury stood out: Perfume. The enchanting and exotic scents discovered by the Egyptians were considered, by many, to be more valuable than gold itself. They also serve as the precursors to some of today’s finest, most expensive perfumes.
Despite the thousands of years that have passed since ancient Egyptians began their first forays into the art of perfume-making, beauty authority Marilyn Miglin has rediscovered the secrets behind some of their original scents. These essences are revealed in Marilyn Miglin’s newest set of Egyptian-inspired fragrances: The Seven Sacred Oils. This stunning set of oils contains seven of Ancient Egypt’s most revered scents, and is available exclusively at The Field Museum Store.
The Seven Sacred Oils collection contains seven oils cherished by ancient Egyptians for their powerful behavioral effects. They include Spikenard, to stimulate physic powers; Olibanum, to stimulate the sense of smell; Palm, to revitalize energy; Myrrh, a cherished blood stimulant; Juniper, to calm and cleanse, Fo-ti-tieng, a sexual stimulant; and Lotus, to recall the sweetness of a woman. Marilyn Miglin discovered these special ingredients during a journey to Egypt, where she scoured temple reliefs and ancient hieroglyphs for hints of ancient perfume techniques. These recipes, in addition to traces of fragrances left on ancient perfume vessels, gave Marilyn Miglin unique insights into the treasured scents of the Pharaohs.
These seven sacred oils comprise ingredients of Marilyn Miglin’s renowned scent Pheromone, which was introduced in conjunction with the opening of the first King Tut exhibition at The Field Museum in 1977. Pheromone has since been one of the top selling fragrances sold in luxury department stores nationwide. The release of the Seven Sacred Oils collection nearly 30 years later marks the first time that these stunning fragrances will be available individually. It is in this form that their effects are most potent.
